Line Array Sound System, Wireless Systems, and Lighting Design for Milestone Church
For this edition of our Rig Rundown blog series, we’ll be highlighting the full line array, audio, and intelligent lighting systems we built for the Milestone Church at LoneHollow Ranch for their week-long youth camp.
This glorious day started with hopping in the truck for a 3 hour long trek to Vanderpool, Texas – just Northwest of San Antonio. After a vastly scenic trip through some meandering roads, (with not a single buc-ees in site) we finally arrived at gorgeous LoneHollow Ranch. This YoungLife retreat center is full equipped with a swimming hole, concert hall, ample lodging, airstreams, kickball court, volleyball courts, you name it. It’s basically heaven for any church youth group.
Lighting Design and Rental
We brought in a small ground package with GrandMA2 command / fader wing control. The rig consists of:
- (4) Robe Pointe
- (12) Martin Mac Aura
- (4) Elation Protron 3K Color LED
Our Mac Aura fixtures were hung on 8’ truss with 6’ outriggers to provide an ample front wash with a quick and easy deployment. We had (4) 6’ pipe and base with an Aura and Protron on each, providing a simple, yet effective upstage coverage.
The Pointes were placed directly on the ground in configuration with the pipe and base.
Dash was able to sit down with the LoneHollow church’s resident lighting designer and production manager, Michelle Leonforte, and contribute sufficient programming to help get them rolling. After programming some color presets, intensity faders, and base positions, we helped to create a seamless experience for quick cuestack programming.,
Sound System Rental for Church Camp
As for audio, Limitless provided a full dB Technologies line array system with Sumner lifts provided by fellow Austin production company, Ideal Productions. The audio package consisted of:
- (8) dB Technologies VIO L210 Line Array Tops
- (4) dB technologies VIO S218 Subwoofers
- (1) Midas M32R
- (8) PSM900s
- (4) ULXS4 Microphones
- (2) Sumner Eventer Lifts
Using the dBTechnologies Composer app, we calculated the optimal coverage for the system – including the perfect crossover points, HF comps, array angles, and gain for each cabinet. The room was roughly 50’ deep, with the array hung at 13’ high., with 33’ between the arrays. Due to the 100° horizontal directivity of the cabinets, we were able to achieve amazing coverage even in the center-most and outer-most portions of the room, without using front fills. The result was an extremely clean and present sound with a full frequency range response.
Generator Rental in Texas
Due to some power constraints at the venue, and the necessary draw of our powerful equipment, it was required to have a generator at the venue to connect to our distro. Utilizing banded feeder cable and a compact quiet 48KW generator from our partners over at Groove Labs, we were able to delivery 100Amps of three phase power to get the job done.
Lighting and Sound in San Antonio Texas:
After ensuring both our lighting and audio systems were functioning properly and ready to go for the week, we packed up some cases and began our 3 hour expedition back to home base. We greatly appreciate the LoneHollow camp in recruiting Limitless for their main stage setup, as the whole process was smooth and all the staff were great in assisting us. Until next time!
