A Typical Day

  • Technical Coordination: Oversee and coordinate between audio, video, lighting, and rigging departments to ensure cohesive event execution.
  • Crew Management: Lead technical crews according to detailed schedules, keeping them on track and motivated. Manage crew assignments and monitor performance.
  • Scheduling and Compliance: Ensure compliance with labor regulations, including overtime, break periods, and walkaway rules. Adjust schedules as needed to accommodate changes.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Understand and navigate local union rules, in-house policies, and dock procedures at various venues. Ensure all operations are in compliance with these regulations.
  • Logistics Management: Coordinate truck arrivals and departures, manage equipment load-ins and load-outs, and oversee marshaling yard activities.
  • Client Interaction: Serve as the primary on-site contact for clients, addressing concerns, managing expectations, and providing updates on event progress.
  • Documentation and Planning: Utilize software like Vectorworks, Capture 3D, or WYSIWYG for event planning and technical documentation. Prepare and manage pull sheets, equipment lists, and schedules.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure all operations comply with OSHA standards and safety protocols. Conduct safety briefings and enforce the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Backup Planning: Maintain a network of local technicians and labor contacts to address no-call-no-shows or last-minute staffing changes.
  • Problem-Solving: Quickly address and resolve on-site technical or logistical issues, minimizing impact on event timelines.
  • Incident Reporting: Document any incidents or accidents, complete necessary reports, and implement corrective actions.
  • Equipment Oversight: Ensure all equipment is accounted for during load-in and load-out, mitigating losses by following pull sheets and inventory protocols.
  • Emergency Response: Be prepared to handle emergencies involving crew members, equipment failures, or other unforeseen events.

Your Expertise

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in event production management or as a crew chief.
  • Technical Expertise: Primary technical skill in audio, video, lighting, or rigging is required.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications such as OSHA, ETCP, forklift, scissor lift, boom lift, and Dante certification are highly preferred.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong ability to lead and motivate crews, with experience managing large teams.
  • Organizational Skills: Proficient in scheduling, logistics management, and documentation.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with clients, crew, and vendors.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to handle high-pressure situations and make informed decisions quickly.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with labor laws, union regulations, and safety standards.
  • Technical Proficiency: Comfortable using planning software and familiar with technical drawings and plots.
  • Professionalism: Punctual, reliable, and able to maintain composure under pressure.

Pay Range

  • Pay range is $45-$65 p/h
