A Typical Day

  • Graphic Content Creation: Design and prepare graphics using Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, and Photoshop. Experience with Illustrator is also beneficial.
  • Live Graphics Operation: Operate Resolume Arena for live visual performances, including setting up decks, managing layers, and triggering clips in sync with the event.
  • Media Server Configuration: Configure and troubleshoot media servers, ensuring smooth playback and integration with other systems. Familiarity with Disguise (formerly d3), Watchout, or Dataton is advantageous.
  • Video Switcher Integration: Work with Blackmagic Design video switchers to integrate graphics into live video feeds, understanding how to manage USK (Upstream Key) and DSK (Downstream Key) settings.
  • LED Screen Management: Use Novastar SmartLCT or NovaLCT software to configure LED screens, create output maps, and manage scaling for custom resolutions and formats (e.g., 3:1 aspect ratio).
  • Hardware Knowledge: Build and configure PCs, understanding components such as PCIe cards, and troubleshoot hardware issues as they arise.
  • MIDI Mapping and Control: Set up MIDI mapping in Resolume to control parameters in real-time, enhancing the responsiveness of live visuals.
  • Blending Modes and Effects: Utilize blending modes effectively to create dynamic visual effects that complement the event’s aesthetic.
  • Timecode Synchronization: Configure timecode in Resolume to synchronize visuals with lighting consoles like MA2, MA3, or Chamsys.
  • Character Generators: Operate character generators and live graphics systems such as CharacterWorks or Ross XPression to create lower thirds, titles, and overlays.
  • Content Adaptation: Adapt pre-designed graphics to fit specific event needs, including resizing, reformatting, and optimizing for different display systems.
  • Equipment Management: Use personal high-performance graphics laptops equipped with necessary software and hardware to execute tasks efficiently.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with video directors, lighting designers, and other technical staff to ensure cohesive visual presentation.

Your Expertise

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in live event graphics operation.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Cloud applications, especially After Effects, Premiere Pro, and Photoshop.
  • Software Knowledge: Proficient in Resolume Arena, with experience in MIDI mapping and timecode synchronization.
  • Hardware Skills: Ability to build and configure PCs, understanding of PCIe cards, and troubleshooting hardware/software issues.
  • LED Systems Familiarity: Experience with Novastar software for LED screen configuration.
  • Media Servers: Knowledge of media server setup and operation; experience with Disguise, Watchout, or Dataton is a plus.
  • Creative Skills: Strong design sense with the ability to create visually compelling graphics that enhance live productions.
  • Problem-Solving: Quick and effective troubleshooting skills during live events.
  • Communication: Excellent teamwork and communication abilities.
  • Preparedness: Ownership of necessary equipment and software licenses.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous in content preparation and execution to prevent errors during live performances.

Pay Range

  • Pay range is $45-$65 p/h
